Fresh Out the Inbox | Wes Guy feat. Tope ‘So Good’

Portland has a soulful vein running through their hip-hop — we’re with it. Last year, Tope sucked us in with his ode to Miz Badu. Now, Wes Guy’s ‘So Good’ is the latest. From his Perfectly, Imperfect project, the Mike Mo-produced track is irresistible in its jazzy vibe and the appreciation for taking a moment out to look at life’s blessings.

Use Your Eyes | Tope ‘Oh Sh!t’

Yo. I was rocking with Tope already. If you keep up with MFD, you already know… But this newest offering from the Portland rapper ought to have all the ’80s babies bobbing heads. LOL. Seriously, who’s ever touched the theme song from Who’s the Boss? Tope does it here, so effortlessly. Flipping such a wholesome network TV ditty into a free-flowing rap track instantly had us like, ‘Oh sh*t!’ So it’s aptly named I suppose.

Stewart Villain is behind the boards and FILTHIEST is behind the lens on this one.  This is cool. Also, press ‘play’ on his BROKEBOYSYNDROME album.

Tope Is Gonna Be Trouble For You Squares...

A few weeks ago, MFD featured Tope‘s ‘Take Your Time’ video and we’ve been checking for him ever since. The Portland-based rapper is on his way to bigger things in the coming year, working on a follow-up to his Trouble Man EP and documenting his solo moves after having been signed to a small imprint — including opening shows for folks like Nas. Pretty substantial, huh? Continue reading

Fresh Out the Inbox: Tope ‘Take Your Time’ [Video]

TOPElive

Point number one? Portland rapper Tope sampled soul goddess Erykah Badu. Point two? He coasts on the track titled ‘Take Your Time’ from his recent ‘Trouble Man’ EP. Number three? And this is ill — he recruits Farnell Newton, Jill Scott’s trumpeter — to put his own jazz on the record. Awesome. Refreshing. And very well-orchestrated. Continue reading
