The first time I met Nick Grant, it was right after an #ExperienceHope talk featuring Atlanta industry fixture Jason Geter. I had perched myself on a desk at the city’s SAE Institute, readying my recorder. “So,” I started. “Have you ever done spoken word?” Grant chuckled. “Nah. Not me.”
It was something about the verse he’d just spit for a room of about 50 attendees, the emphasis on certain words and the intonation of the lyrics. But see here? With his latest drop of ‘Dead Poet Society,’ I wasn’t far off. The track features Ricco Barrino (who, last we heard, had signed to Grand Hustle) — you know, Fantasia’s blood brother — and Nick is doing some super experimental stuff here inspired by Def Poetry Jam — for those who are old enough to recall the series.
Keep an eye out for this guy — indefinitely. He’s been on Day 1 Radio within the past month and at this point you can pretty much call him a regular up at Sway in the Morning.
Grant has also been putting in work with his fellow artists, heavy. ‘Royalty’ was my introduction to him alongside CyHi the Prynce but he’s prepping a remix with Killer Mike and Big KRIT that may make some heads explode. LOL. Then there’s potentially something coming out of a session with crooner BJ the Chicago Kid also. Sheesh. Talk about grinding.
