#SXSWFresh 2015 | ELLIS
I’d been turning the idea of goodie bags over in my mind for awhile now. Something to hand out to my peers in the business while in Austin, then it dawned on me… My thing is new music from new artists, so why not include them and their tracks? Here, they introduce themselves to you, in their own words… Next up…
What’s Your Sound:
I would describe my sound, content wise, as “Street Conscious.” Because of my life experiences I am able to descriptively talk about everything from the streets to politics, from spirituality to religion and the history and struggle of Africans or indigenous people in general. I speak on these subjects from an honest firsthand perspective. My production team provides me with the soulful, bass-heavy beats that I call psychedelic soul.
Where Are You From:
I was born and raised in Baltimore. BMoreCareful.
Why You, Why Now:
Even though I’m inspired by the greats (Pac, Nas, BIG) I don’t sound like anyone — which is rare — and more importantly, my music bleeds, meaning it has a pulse and is based on truth. As a result, it can be felt by anyone who hears it regardless of their background, age, or gender without me having to make songs that cater to any specific demographic. People want real music that they can feel not just when intoxicated in a club. It’s my opinion that record sales are down because the music has become disposable, formulaic and what I do is 100% organic.
How Can People Find You:
You can follow me on social media.
Next is my Ocean Grown project, it’s the follow up to my critically acclaimed album The Education of ELLIS. The first release will be ‘Super Conscious,’ produced by Statik Selektah, who mixed and mastered the whole album.
** Also, check for ELLIS’s short film The Education of ELLIS below. Very well shot.
