Couple Thoughts On the Other Night | The Street Execs Show Off Their New Digs

SE2 You know how sometimes you run into a situation that feels familiar, but not really? Six years ago when I started taking baby steps, moving around a little in Atlanta, I remember visiting the building that is now Street Execs Studios.

Fresh Out the Inbox | Wes Guy feat. Tope ‘So Good’

Portland has a soulful vein running through their hip-hop — we’re with it. Last year, Tope sucked us in with his ode to Miz Badu. Now, Wes Guy’s ‘So Good’ is the latest. From his Perfectly, Imperfect project, the Mike Mo-produced track is irresistible in its jazzy vibe and the appreciation for taking a moment out to look at life’s blessings.

Fresh Out the Inbox | DonJuan ‘Juan Bellamy Platinum’ EP

Man, so much of the music out of Detroit is worth taking a second look at. DonJuan‘s chillwave-type of vibe is reminiscent of the innovation of Mr. Yancy’s day. But DonJuan is of the new generation, upholding that sense of doing something different but dope. I mean, there’s a damn Dave Hollister sample in there! Sheesh. Continue reading

Fresh Out the Inbox | AxJ ‘1000 Watts’

“Haters still hating and boppers still boppin’…” — AxJ ‘1000 Watts’

Minimalism wins here. As soon as the production — courtesy of beatsmith Jimmy Jones — opened up, Naptown native AxJ (formerly known as Lyrical AJ) had me hooked, then the next few bars locked me in. The emcee is also a poet so he knows how to use words effectively — making his point while being concise. Got a pretty nice flow too. Continue reading

Fresh Out the Inbox | Trev ‘Random Acts of Flyness’ [Mixtape]

After having made his debut back in 2012 with ‘The Trevolution,’ Atlanta-based Trev has regained his momentum off the strength of work done within the past few years — which is crazy. But, it goes to show, just because somebody’s quiet doesn’t mean they’re not working. This project here is a compilation of those tracks, under a dope title that we can’t get over — ‘Random Acts of Flyness’? Indeed.

Fresh Music | Sy Ari Da Kid feat. Snootie Wild ‘Old’

Old money is cool. Old situations? Not so much. Here, Sy Ari teams up with Yo Gotti’s signee Snootie Wild to talk ambition and the wiles in chasing it, over production from Bobby Kritical and Will-A-Fool. There are things you need to let go of when you’re on your way to the top. Gotta make room for the new, you know?

This one is off of Sy’s latest project ‘S.O.O.N. [Something Out Of Nothing].’

Use Your Eyes | Anthony Lewis feat. T.I. ‘It’s Not My Fault’

Now this is cute. Earlier this week, young R&B crooner Anthony Lewis dropped the lyric video for his latest track, ‘Not My Fault’ with the Kang, T.I.

The 18-year-old ‘Candy Rain’ singer is pretty much a guaranteed winner. Handsome young dude with the smooth vocals and smoother lyrics. “It’s not my fault that you’re beautiful/So now or later when this feeling is mutual, I know that we can fly…” Slick, right?

Check out Lewis’ #TBH project where he remakes some of today’s hottest tracks, or cop this song here, if you’re feeling him.

Use Your Eyes | FDAmusic feat. Kevin Gates ‘I Know It’

Houston-bred rapper FDAmusic is open about what it is that he wants on his latest project FameSo it’s fitting that for his new visual for ‘I Know It,’ he brings in another artist that is pretty confident in what he’s working toward in this thing of ours. Here, FDA and Kevin Gates team up to put you on to the many facts they already know. Check it above.

Use Your Eyes | Paper Chaser Committee feat. Bigga Rankin ‘The Committee Intro’

Damn. I thought West Palm Beach was chill. All resorts and whatnot. Ha! This new one ‘The Committee Intro’ from the Paper Chaser Committee shows another side of the city. A whole other attitude and MFD is with it for sure. Diversity wins, always. Over a series of mean guitar riffs and a soul sample, Vandam Bodyslam, 5th Street Bree, Mic Check, and A.I. Stay Fly go in. Hood-renowned DJ Bigga Rankin ties it all together throughout the track and now — just that quick — I’m paying attention to these guys. Well done. Check for their project, aptly titled, The Committee, here.

New Music | Rich Homie Quan ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)’

Word on the street is that Rich Homie Quan is finally prepping to drop his debut LP this spring. Last week, the lyric video dropped for his lead single ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)’ and we’ve gotta say, this here gives a cool lil’ vibe, sort of like ‘Type of Way’ years ago but a little more polished.
