Couple Thoughts | Zaytoven’s ‘Finesse’

Last week, MFD was invited to a private screening of Zaytoven‘s latest film ‘Finesse’ — which he touched on in his recent interview with Day 1. The tagline is ‘Just because you see it, don’t mean it’s there.’ So you get where this is going right?

Shine | ‘Noisey Atlanta’ Series Trailer

Yo. This here? Hard body. Noisey is back again with another 10-part series in the same vein as their Chiraq joints. Now, I’ve heard a couple opposing opinions to the Chi-Town series. Some say it’s incredibly accurate while others have stated that it seems the Noisey team only poked their head in to showcase the worst of the city. Either way, I’m excited to see what they do here with the Atlanta run.  Continue reading

#FreshVision | Art Morera

Back like we never left.

Recently had the chance to get with Miami’s own Art Morera who dropped his Around Midnight project at the top of 2014 and is still getting a pretty decent response from it. Tracks like the groove-driven ‘Miami Vice,’ appeal to hip-hop heads beyond the palm trees and sandy beaches of the 305 and Art is gearing up to ensure that you know a little more of his story before 2015 hits.  Continue reading

Fresh Music | Lucci feat. Rich Homie Quan ‘Exactly How It Was’

Had the chance to sit with Lucci of TIG a couple weeks ago. Well, actually, it was Lucci and like, a million of his homeboys and label team members. I was late to the session and by the time I arrived the room was thick with weed smoke, drinks flowed and rapper was more than halfway through his Wish Me Well project.  Continue reading

New Music | Young Dolph feat. Shy Glizzy ‘Make the World Go Around’

I’m a late Dolph fan. I’ll admit it. But the Street Execs team is hardworking and in 2014 they forced us all to take a second or third look at the Memphis native. Here, he and DMV representative Shy Glizzy go back and forth — over Drumma Boy’s production — explaining exactly what happens to the Earth on its axis when somebody ‘real’ is present. See how I did that? Press play.

Use Your Eyes | Twon Don ‘4th N Inches’

TwonDon is a welcome throwback. Like, for real. My first listen to this ‘4th N Inches’ joint reminds me so much of Jay’s flow circa his ‘In My Lifetime’ era. Coupled with the production from Luke White, I’m back in ’96 waiting for the D train in my Hilfiger denim with Sony headphones on.  For goodness sake, one of his homies has on a FILA headband. FILA! Ha! I love this one. Continue reading

Use Your Eyes | Ellis ‘Higher Learning Pt. 2’

Ellis from B-More just dropped another visual off to MFD about a week ago. His THE EDUCATION OF ELLIS project is a solid one, showcasing his rhyme skills, but above that he really is talking about something. For instance, on this offering ‘Higher Learning Pt. 2,’ the rapper does more than mention that loud in a one-liner, he describes the feeling of chiefin’ in superb detail. Continue reading

Exclusive | Rich Homie Quan X DC Young Fly Talk Upcoming Collab Effort

On Monday night [December 8], MFD had the chance to sit with Rich Homie Quan and talk about his ‘Blah Blah Blah’ remix that dropped today. Continue reading

Use Your Eyes | Niko Khalé ‘HERO’

Now, I don’t know much about this Niko kid, I do know that there’s something about this ‘Hero’ song that hooked me though. Unfettered hope and youthful arrogance but still, relatable. Give it a listen. BTW, Niko Khalé is a DMV native but am I the only one who hears NOLA in his accent? Ha!

Day 1 Radio | Jarren Benton [12/4]

Jarren Benton is crazy as hell. Yeah, I said it. On Thursday, we had the Funk Volume rapper come up to the ABL studio and he had us all in stitches for the bulk of the evening. And he’s a dope emcee, so of course we touched on his upcoming projects including one special EP dedicated to his former manager who passed just over a year ago. Continue reading
