Around 2009, I was privy to Meek Mill‘s growing rap career. He had been running around Atlanta with Tip’s crew but it wasn’t until I heard ‘Rose Red’ that he pulled me in. I remember being incredulous at the way this kid was flowing. Then I hit my family in Philly for validation. Yup. I got it. Interviewed the young man the next day and again the next year and again nearly every year after that.
So on my birthday this year, I skipped the cake and punch and hit South DeKalb Mall for the opening of the Puma Lab, ran into Meek and decided to do some work.
I didn’t get the opportunity to move all that dope but it’s cool. Things happen the way they do for reasons.
I’m thinking, this particular situation birthed this new idea of providing you guys with the lost files from my endless freelance grind for these outlets. You gotta think — a good portion of these interview Q&As end up on the cutting room floor, so to speak. And I don’t like being wasteful. So yeah, it’s only right that Meek kicks off MFD’s new series ‘Lost Files.’ Press play.
**Actually, this is way older than I thought. LOL. This talk took place just before his debut LP release way back when — actually, the very same day this featured photo was taken.
