MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #1 3D NaTee (@3DNatee)- My homie J put me on to Miss NaTee- she’s awesome to say the very least. I rarely hear newcomers go in as hard as she has- on everything. In fact, I’d put this New Orleans flamespitter up against any one of your underachieving rap homies. I would bet money, then I would giggle as she destroys them on some toe-to-toe shit. Think I’m lying? Watch “Switch,” then download her latest tape, The Coronation. Then thank me tomorrow. 🙂

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #2 Joey BadA$$ (@joeyBADASS_)- This one’s kind of a gimme. Joey’s had one hell of a year. I’ve already talked about him here and how I feel about the vibe he has musically. So I won’t beat your head off with that but… For him to be so young… Man. It’s just exciting to see such talent and Young Joey has nothing but time to perfect his songwriting. Here, I posted the joint he has featuring his partner Capital STEEZ, who passed away last week. “Survival Tactics” from the project ‘1999.’ RIP STEEZ.

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #3 Righchus (@Righchus)- Here’s the thing. So many of us writers have other goals, you know, dreams and such. My homie Randy Roper- former music editor of Ozone- followed through on his, and I couldn’t be prouder to see it flourish. Rapper Righchus is at the helm of the aptly-named, South Cacklack-based Million Dollar Dreams crew. His energy is amazing. You should get familiar- in fact, his ‘Black Cradles’ project is the perfect starting point. Check the “Strokers Row” vid- actually one of my favorites this year.

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #4 Big, Bad KAB The Don (@KABThaDon)- Yooooo, this guy?! I would say this Houston native definitely surprised me at A3C this year. Another 2013 candidate. For sure. He spit a freestyle onstage so nasty. Sheesh! KAB dropped his tape ‘Bully On Tha Beat’ early 2012 and has latecomers like me wanting another one, like, tomorrow. 🙂 This “Sleep In A Casket” ain’t nothing to play with. At. All.

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #5 Realm Reality (@officialrickg)- One of my editors actually put me on to this guy. I mean, I already knew Rick Gonzalez from the Hollywood scene, I did NOT know he rapped. Anyway, you know Rick… The Spanish shorty in Coach Carter with the Brooklyn accent! 🙂 I had the opportunity to speak with him recently and I like his style. It reminds me so much of what made me fall in love with rap eons ago. This joint, “Can’t Fuck With Me,” features fellow Brooklynite Skyzoo and will be on his upcoming “In Grind We Trust.”

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #6 Forte Bowie (@ForteBowie)- I’m grateful to know so many creatives who can put me on to some dope music. Forte Bowie has been buzzing out here in Atlanta for some time now but it was the one and only DJ Wally Sparks who insisted I look Forte up online. I’m so glad I did. Dude is incredible. Produces, sings, raps- I know you’re tempted but don’t compare him to Drake. Don’t. Just watch “Impala,” then look up his last project ‘Something About #Bowie’ and see what I mean.

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #7 Doughbeezy (@Doughbeezy)- I can admit to being late as hell, LOL, it’s all good though because this is MY list. 😉 I like this young dude outta Southeast Houston. Saw him onstage at Atlanta’s A3C Hip-Hop Festival a couple months ago and decided that I had to hear more. I believe next year, the world will hear more. Here’s his latest visual: “Breakin’ Boys Off” off the ‘Blue Magic’ tape. Enjoy.

MadFresh 8 to Watch in 2013: #8 Ra Ra (@1UpRaRa)- From what I understand this dude Ra has been around this hip-hop block before. The Decatur native was signed to So So Def previously as Young Capone, but currently he’s on his indie steez, dropping the ‘Higher’ project back in September. I figure, if Maurice Garland can cosign on it, it’s worth a listen. Doncha think? This “Fuck A Cosign” made me a fan.

MadFresh Five Fave Vids of 2012– #1 Rick Ross feat. Dr. Dre & Jay-Z “3 Kings”: Say whatever you wanna say about William Roberts. Think however you wanna think. But above all you have to admit that his team is pretty sharp. On “3 Kings,” Dre Films and Jon J (both of MMG Films), cut and edited pieces of hip-hop history so well and lined them up with the lyrics so proper… I mean. Yes. My personal number 1 of 2012. 🙂

MadFresh Five Fave Vids of 2012– #2 Danny Brown “Grown Up”: I’m not particularly a huge fan of Danny Brown but I do like his style. He can rap and his city’s behind him, can’t ask for much more than that in 2012. This little boy he has playing his role in this video is absolutely amazing and I like to think that this is exactly how Danny was as a kid. A lil’ rabble rouser.
